How to fix Uber not working

When Uber itself is having trouble, these steps won't bring it back, but they will rule out anything on your side:

1. Restart the app and update it

   Force quit from the app switcher, not just the home screen, and open it again. A stalled session is the usual reason the map sits on a spinner. Then check the App Store or Play Store for a pending update; older builds sometimes fail at sign-in and at loading cars.

2. Switch networks and reset the connection

   Turn airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off, which makes the phone grab a fresh connection. If Wi-Fi is what you're on, try mobile data, and the other way around; a weak signal usually shows up as a map that loads slowly or a ride request that spins and then fails.

3. Check location and clock settings

   Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Uber and choose While Using the App or Always, since driver matching needs a location fix. A wrong clock breaks sign-in and payment checks. On Android set Settings > System > Date & time to automatic; on iPhone it's Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically.

4. Clear the cache or reinstall

   On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Uber > Storage & cache and tap Clear cache; that clears corrupt files without signing you out. If the trouble survives a reinstall, open the Help section in the app's menu or go to the help centre at https://help.uber.com/ and describe what happens when you request a ride.

• Lyft In the US and Canada, Lyft covers most of the same cities, so you can book a ride there while the Uber app keeps failing to find a driver.
• Bolt Across much of Europe and Africa, Bolt runs a similar ride service and is the quickest swap when you need a car.
• Mobile site in your browser If only the app is stuck on loading or crashing, try signing in on the mobile website in your phone's browser to request a ride with the same account.
• Local taxi or cab firm A licensed taxi from a rank or a call to a local cab company gets you moving without any app, which works best at airports and stations where taxis already queue.
