How to fix Hitman not working

Hitman is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach hitman.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

Restart the World of Assassination session
Close the game fully before you try another contract. On Xbox, press the Xbox button, highlight the game, press the Menu button, and choose Quit; on PlayStation, highlight the game, press Options, and choose Close Game.
Test the console connection
If the game opens but cannot reach online mode, test the network outside the game. On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection; on Xbox, go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection.
Verify the PC game files
A broken update can stop Hitman from launching or loading missions. In Steam, go to Library > HITMAN World of Assassination > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files; in Epic Games Launcher, go to Library > three dots next to the game > Manage > Verify.
Reinstall the local game
Use this after file repair or a network test fails to change anything. In Steam, go to Library > HITMAN World of Assassination > Manage > Uninstall, then install it again; on Xbox, use My games & apps > See all > Games > Menu button > Uninstall, then reinstall from your library.

What happens when Hitman goes down

Hitman is IO Interactive's stealth game series at hitman.com. If you play World of Assassination for online progression, contracts, leaderboards, or live targets, an outage can leave the game in a cut-down offline state.

Online sign-in often fails first, with messages about failing to connect to the service or fetching the player profile. Progression hurts most. Challenges, mastery unlocks, contracts mode, and leaderboards may stop updating, even if story missions still load in offline mode. Reports can be partial by platform or region, so one console network or one part of the US may look fine while another cannot reach online services.

Is Hitman down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether reports for Hitman are above their usual level, based on 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports are sent to a public outage reporting service, and the status comes only from them. If reports look normal, restart the game and your platform launcher, then test another online game on the same connection. Still failing? Check your platform network settings, turn off any VPN or custom DNS, and try a wired or mobile hotspot connection.

Why does Hitman get stuck on "Connecting" or say it cannot reach the server?

That message points to the IOI online connection, which the game uses for profile data and progression. If reports are high here, wait before changing installs or saves. If reports look normal, close the game and sign out and back into your platform account; if it still fails, restart the router.

Why did my mastery progress or unlocks not show after a mission?

The game posts many rewards only when it has an online profile connection. If that connection drops after you finish a mission, the result screen can look complete while mastery changes lag behind. Return to the main menu after the service connects, then check Career or Inventory before replaying the mission.

Why are Freelancer or Contracts unavailable?

Those modes depend on the online service, so a local internet test can pass while the menus stay locked. When reports are raised here, the best fix is to wait and avoid resetting your profile. If reports are normal, check that Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Network, or Xbox network is signed in.

Why does the IOI Account sign-in loop or fail in the game?

Account linking can fail when the browser handoff back to the game stalls, or when the service cannot verify your platform account. Use the same platform account you bought the game on. If that still loops, restart the console or launcher and try from a normal home connection without a VPN.
