How to fix Fitbit not working
Fitbit is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach fitbit.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Start a Fitbit sync
Open the app, go to Today, tap the devices icon at the top, choose your tracker or watch, and tap Sync Now. Keep the device near your phone while the sync runs; if the app says it cannot find it, leave the app open for a minute.
Check Bluetooth access
On iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on, then go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth and allow Fitbit. On Android, open Settings > Apps > Fitbit > Permissions and allow Nearby devices and Location if they appear, then turn Bluetooth off and back on.
Restart your Fitbit device
For Charge 5 and Charge 6, open Settings on the tracker, tap Restart Device, then tap Restart. For Sense and Versa watches, hold the button until the Fitbit logo appears, then release it.
Pair Fitbit again
In the app, open Today > devices icon > your device, scroll down, and tap Remove. In your phone's Bluetooth settings, forget the old tracker or watch entry, then return to the app and add it again from Today > devices icon > Add device.
While Fitbit is down: what to use instead
- Apple Health Use it on iPhone to keep a basic activity record from your phone or Apple Watch while Fitbit sync is failing.
- Google Fit Use it on Android to record steps and workouts from your phone when the app will not load.
- Samsung Health Use it on Galaxy phones and watches for step counts and exercise logs if your tracker data is stuck.
- Device storage Keep wearing the tracker, because it can hold recent activity and upload it after the service responds again.
What happens when Fitbit goes down
Fitbit is the fitness tracker, smartwatch, scale, and mobile app service at fitbit.com. People in the US rely on it to sync steps, sleep, workouts, heart data, and weight, so an outage can leave the app empty while the device still records activity.
Sync is usually the first thing you notice: the app spins on a device update, recent sleep is missing, or today’s steps stop matching the tracker. Login can also fail, and account pages may hang before graphs or Premium health metrics load. Device recording often keeps working during a service problem, but cloud history, setup, and app dashboards can lag until the servers recover. The status here comes only from reports sent to a public outage-reporting service, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, so a spike can reflect a regional or partial problem.

Tip: Fitbit doesn't list a public status page that we know of, so its help centre and the report chart on this page are the best places to check.
How we track Fitbit
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Fitbit, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Fitbit, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Fitbit doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
