How to fix Starfield not working
Starfield is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Check Bethesda.net and Xbox status
Open status.bethesda.net and the Xbox status page. If either shows a problem with sign-in, cloud saves or Creations, it clears up once they fix it.
Update the Xbox app and Gaming Services
On PC Game Pass, open the Microsoft Store library, install any updates for the Xbox app and Gaming Services, then restart your PC. An out-of-date Gaming Services is a common reason the game won't launch.
Start without mods
Disable Creations and other mods, then launch the game. If it runs, turn them back on a few at a time to find the one the latest patch broke.
Verify the game files on Steam
In Steam, right-click Starfield, open Properties, then Installed Files and choose Verify integrity of game files to repair damaged or missing files.
While Starfield is down: what to use instead
- Offline mode The main campaign is single-player, so you can keep exploring if you launch the game in Steam offline mode or on an Xbox set as your home console.
- Local saves If a cloud sync warning pops up at launch, keep playing on your local save and it uploads once the connection is back.
- Nexus Mods on PC Creations won't load without Bethesda.net, but on PC you can install mods by hand from Nexus Mods.
- Bethesda help centre For a failed login or a Creations purchase that never showed up, the help centre website has account guides and a ticket form you can use while the in-game menu won't connect.
What happens when Starfield goes down
Starfield is Bethesda's space RPG, released in September 2023 on Xbox and PC, including Game Pass. Its story campaign doesn't need a server, so problems that look like an outage usually involve Bethesda.net sign-in, the Creations menu, Xbox network services or cloud saves.
When Xbox or Bethesda services have trouble, the game can fail to launch from Game Pass, cloud saves stop syncing between PC and Xbox, and the Creations menu won't load mods. Crashes after a patch are more often caused by outdated mods than by servers. The Steam and Xbox app versions can behave differently, so it helps to know which one you're running.
