Troubleshooting

How to fix Expedia not working

Expedia is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach expedia.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force quit Expedia and reopen it

Force quit the app, then open it again. On iPhone, open the app switcher and swipe the app card up; on Android, open the recent apps screen and swipe it away. Launch it and repeat the search or booking you were on.

  2. Switch Wi-Fi or mobile data

Turn Wi-Fi off in Control Center or Quick Settings, load the app over mobile data, then reverse the test. If a page stalls on one network, restart the router or toggle airplane mode for a few seconds.

  3. Clear Expedia app cache

On Android, open Settings, then Apps, then Expedia, then Storage, and tap Clear cache. On iPhone there is no cache control, so delete the app and install it again from the App Store; your account stays with your login.

  4. Sign out and try a private window

In the app, open Account, scroll to the sign out control, and sign back in. If the booking still fails, open Chrome, click the three-dot menu, and pick New Incognito window; in Safari, choose File, then New Private Window. Sign in there and repeat the search to see if the problem follows your account.

While Expedia is down: what to use instead

  • Desktop website Open the site in a browser when the mobile app stalls at sign-in or checkout, then finish the booking from a laptop.
  • Airline website Book a new flight on the airline's own site if the travel site will not load.
  • Hotel front desk Call the hotel direct when the app fails at payment; ask for a confirmation email before you hang up.
  • Google Flights Check schedules and fares on Google Flights while the service is unavailable, then buy the ticket on the airline's site.
About

What happens when Expedia goes down

Expedia is a travel booking site and app for flights, hotels, rental cars, and packages, used by leisure travelers and business travelers who need to compare or change plans. An outage interrupts flight search, hotel search, booking checkout, and itinerary access; the status at the top of each page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, and this site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor the service itself and never checks from multiple locations.

During an outage, flight and hotel search can return blank results or spin on price checks, and the app may log you out when you open a trip. Checkout often fails after you enter payment details, and saved itineraries or confirmation pages may not load. Search and pricing tend to break first because every booking path depends on them. Problems are often partial or regional: the app may fail on one platform while the desktop page still loads, or one route and date may break while others work.

Questions

Expedia FAQ

Is Expedia down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Test the site and app on Wi-Fi, then on cellular data. If other sites load while sign-in or checkout stalls, the fault may be on your connection or browser; a second device can confirm that, and a hotel search that works there points to a local cache or account session.

Why does the Expedia app show a blank screen when I open my trip?

A blank trip screen often comes from a stale app cache or a sign-in session that expired while the app sat in the background. Force close the app and reopen it. If the itinerary still does not load, sign out then back in and check the same booking in a mobile browser; weak Wi-Fi can stall the refresh, so switch to cellular data for one test.

Why did my Expedia payment fail when my card works elsewhere?

Card issuers sometimes block travel charges until you approve them, and a billing address mismatch on the booking form can stop the payment before it reaches the bank. Check the card details and the address you entered. If the charge still fails, call the number on the back of the card; do not retry the same booking many times in a row, because pending holds can stack up and make the next attempt fail.

Can I open my Expedia itinerary if the website is down?

The app can show a saved itinerary and confirmation details when the website will not load, as long as you signed in and the booking is tied to your account. Open the app and pull up the booking from your trips. If the app also refuses to load, check your confirmation email for the hotel or flight details and use that copy at check-in.

Why does Expedia show a different price in the app and in my browser?

Rates can change between searches because room and seat inventory moves, and the app may keep a cached result that is older than the browser page. Clear the app data or sign out and back in, then search again in a private browser window to compare the same dates and room type. Taxes and currency settings can change the total even when the base fare matches.

How we track Expedia

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Expedia, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Expedia, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Expedia doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
