How to fix UpdraftPlus not working
UpdraftPlus is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach updraftplus.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Retry the UpdraftPlus backup
Go to Settings > UpdraftPlus Backups, open the Backup/Restore tab, and click Backup Now. Watch the progress bar: if it stalls on database or files, you know which half to fix. Let it run a full minute before you call it stuck.
Read the UpdraftPlus log
Open Advanced Tools and click Show log, then scroll to the bottom for the newest entry; that last line usually names the exact failure. A timeout points to the server or the remote storage. If the log is empty, enable Debug mode under Advanced Tools and run a manual backup again.
Rescan UpdraftPlus storage
In Existing backups, click Rescan local folder for new backup sets, then Rescan remote storage if you use Google Drive, Dropbox, S3, or another remote destination. This rebuilds the list when the dashboard shows no backups but the files still exist. If the rescan fails, check the remote account credentials in Settings and reconnect it.
Shrink the backup or raise limits
On the Settings tab, put large cache folders, old logs, temp files, and any backup directory in the Exclude these files and folders from the backup box, then run a manual backup again. A timeout after that points to server limits. Ask your host to raise the PHP memory limit and max execution time, or split the job by backing up files and database on separate schedules; for a stubborn site, disable other plugins during a manual backup and switch to a simpler remote destination to isolate the conflict.
While UpdraftPlus is down: what to use instead
- Hosting panel backups Your web host often keeps daily snapshots, so restore files and the database from its control panel when the plugin will not load.
- Jetpack Backup If Jetpack already runs on your site, use its restore tool to pull a recent cloud copy while the usual backup screen is unavailable.
- BlogVault A separate WordPress backup service helps when you want off-site copies you can restore from a dashboard that does not depend on the plugin.
- Manual export Export the database in phpMyAdmin, download wp-content over SFTP, save both files, and label the folder with the site name before a change you cannot undo.

What happens when UpdraftPlus goes down
UpdraftPlus handles WordPress backups. Site owners, developers, and agencies rely on it to copy files and databases to cloud storage, so an outage interrupts scheduled runs, manual runs, restores, and migrations.
Backups fail first. A manual run may hang at the start, and a scheduled run may skip its slot; your backup list can show an old timestamp or a failed status. Restores and migrations stall when they cannot pull files from remote storage. Problems are often partial: one cloud provider or one action breaks while the rest of the dashboard still loads, and reports can cluster by region or network.
