How to fix PagerDuty not working

PagerDuty is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Check the official status page
Open the official status page and check the component for the product you use. If it shows an active incident, the problem is on the service side, so wait for updates and use the help centre if you need account-specific help.
Reload the PagerDuty tab
Close the tab, open a private or incognito window, and sign in with your usual work account. If the page loads but actions fail, sign out from the account menu and sign back in; this clears a stale session that can leave incident lists blank or buttons unresponsive.
Check push notifications on your phone
On iOS, open Settings > Notifications > PagerDuty and turn on Allow Notifications. On Android, open Settings > Apps > PagerDuty > Notifications and turn on notifications; reopen the mobile app and confirm your on-call shifts appear.
Review notification rules and contact methods
In the PagerDuty web app, open My Profile, then Notification Rules, and check that your contact methods are verified. Make sure an escalation policy includes you and that your schedule has no gaps; if the mobile app still misses alerts, uninstall and reinstall it, then sign in again.

Fix: Clear your web browser's cache and cookies, or try accessing the PagerDuty dashboard in an incognito window. If the connection fails, temporarily disable any active VPNs or proxy servers that might block PagerDuty.

PagerDuty on Android

Fix: Go to your device settings to clear the PagerDuty app cache, and ensure the app is updated to the latest version in the Google Play Store. Verify that PagerDuty has permission to send push notifications and bypass battery optimization.
Check: Open the PagerDuty app to check if it displays connection timeout errors or fails to sync your on-call schedule. You can also check if the PagerDuty service is down globally by visiting their status site on your mobile browser.

PagerDuty on iPhone and iPad

Fix: Update the PagerDuty app via the App Store and ensure that Critical Alerts are enabled in your iOS notification settings. If the app continues to crash, perform a clean reinstall of PagerDuty and restart your iPhone.
Check: Check if the PagerDuty mobile app fails to load incidents or displays network connection alerts. You can also verify PagerDuty's system status online using Safari to see if the mobile push notification service is disrupted.

What happens when PagerDuty goes down

PagerDuty is an incident response platform that on-call engineers and IT teams trust to route alerts from monitoring tools straight to you on duty shift. Outages silence those pages.

When the service struggles, you miss the phone call or SMS that should wake you while the web dashboard still loads because inbound integrations queue up behind the outage. You see stale incident lists and ack buttons that spin without clearing. The mobile app holds old statuses although Slack posts arrive late, so you and teammates stare at different versions of the same incident. Most failures stay partial and regional, and leave some paths to you open.

Is PagerDuty down right now?

Why did my PagerDuty push notification not arrive on my phone?

The app relies on OS-level push permissions, so a denied permission, battery saver, Focus mode, or a stale app session can silence an alert even when the incident exists. Open the app and refresh your incidents; if they load but no banner appears, check your phone's notification settings and your on-call schedule. Confirm you are listed on the correct schedule because an out-of-date app session can show the wrong on-call status.

Why is my PagerDuty incident stuck in the triggered state?

A triggered incident stays open until someone acknowledges or resolves it, and the escalation policy decides who gets paged next. If no responder is on call or the service's integration is disabled, the incident can sit there without a new notification. Check the incident timeline and the service's escalation policy; add an on-call responder or re-enable the integration if either is missing.

Why does PagerDuty show an error when I sign in with SAML SSO?

SAML SSO failures often come from a mismatch between your identity provider email and your PagerDuty profile email, or from an expired session on the identity provider side. Ask your account admin to confirm SSO is enabled for your user, then clear the browser cookies for the service and try again. If other people on the same identity provider can sign in, the problem is likely your account rather than the app.

Why are my PagerDuty SMS and phone call alerts not working?

The service sends SMS and phone calls through the contact methods and notification rules on your profile, so a missing verified number or a rule that only uses push can stop them. Open your profile and send a test notification to the contact method; carriers sometimes filter automated texts while voice calls still connect. If the test works but real incidents do not, review the service's notification rules because an override or a schedule change can skip your phone.
