How to fix DGT not working
DGT is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach sede.dgt.gob.es over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Open the DGT sede privately
In Chrome or Edge on a computer, press Ctrl+Shift+N to open a private window, then go to https://sede.dgt.gob.es. Start the trámite again and pick the same sign-in method, such as Cl@ve or certificado digital.
Allow DGT pop-ups
Some trámites open an ID or payment window; a blocker can make the button look dead. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects, then add https://sede.dgt.gob.es under Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects.
Clear DGT site data
In Chrome, open chrome://settings/siteData and search for dgt.gob.es. Click the trash icon for each result, then close every tab from the sede because old cookies can send Cl@ve back to the first page.
Check DGT signing
On Windows, press Win+R and run certmgr.msc, then open Personal > Certificates to check that your FNMT or DNIe certificate appears and has not expired. If a signature step hangs, open Start > All apps > AutoFirma once, close it, and try the DGT trámite again. On macOS, check the certificate in Keychain Access > login > My Certificates, then open Finder > Applications > AutoFirma if the trámite needs a signature.
While DGT is down: what to use instead
- miDGT app Use the app if you need your digital driving licence or vehicle papers while the electronic office is not loading.
- 060 phone service Call 060 for DGT administrative help or to ask about appointment booking when the website will not let you finish a trámite.
- Provincial traffic office For paperwork that cannot wait, use a provincial traffic office; take your ID and the documents tied to the case.
- Correos for fine payment If you only need to pay a traffic fine, a Correos office can help when online payment is failing.
What happens when DGT goes down
DGT is Spain's Dirección General de Tráfico, and its sede.dgt.gob.es site handles online traffic and vehicle paperwork for drivers, companies, and public employees. When it has trouble, you may lose access to fine payments, driving licence points checks, vehicle reports, or appointment forms.
Login is often where failures appear first. If Cl@ve or a certificate handoff stalls, the site can send you back to the start or leave a form spinning after identification. Fine payment and vehicle procedures may time out after you submit data, which is awkward because you may not know whether the request reached the administration. Problems are often partial: one procedure or appointment pages can be slow while the miDGT app and static information pages still open.

Tip: DGT doesn't list a public status page that we know of, so its help centre and the report chart on this page are the best places to check.
How we track DGT
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for DGT, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for DGT, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. DGT doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
