How to fix Akamai not working

Akamai is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Check the official status page
Open the official Akamai status page in a browser and read any notices about the service or region you use. If the page shows an incident, wait for the provider to clear it before you change settings on your device. If it shows normal operation, the issue is likely local to your connection or browser.
Try another network or drop the VPN
Turn off any VPN or proxy, then switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or the reverse. Reload the site that depends on Akamai. If it loads on one connection but not the other, your original network is the problem.
Clear cookies and cache for the site
In Chrome, open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Delete browsing data; choose Cookies and other site data plus Cached images and files, then reload the site. If the site still fails, open a private window to rule out extensions.
Flush DNS and reset your connection
On Windows, open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /flushdns. On macOS, open Terminal and run sudo dscacheutil -flushcache, then sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder. Akamai uses DNS to route you to its edge, so stale resolver data can keep you on a path that fails for your provider.

Akamai on Windows

Fix: To resolve Akamai routing or connection issues on Windows, clear your browser cache and flush your DNS cache. If problems persist, temporarily switch your network adapter's DNS settings to a public provider like Google DNS or Cloudflare.

Akamai on Android

Fix: Resolve Akamai loading errors on Android by clearing the cache of your affected web browser or app, or toggling your Wi-Fi connection off and on. If the issue persists, switch to a different network or configure a Private DNS provider in your system settings.

Akamai on iPhone and iPad

What happens when Akamai goes down

You never open it. Akamai is the delivery layer that carries video, software downloads, store pages and logins for big brands, which means an outage leaves you with slow loads or failed checkouts.

Video stalls first while pages load without images or styles because the edge cache stops answering; logins and checkouts fail when the origin cannot be reached. Pages break and stall. You can see a retailer down while other sites work, and the fault sits in one metro or ISP path while the rest of the backbone holds.

Is Akamai down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether reports about it are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. If the count is high, the official status page is where you confirm a real incident. To find out whether the fault sits on your end, load the same site or app on mobile data, then on a second device; trouble that follows every device and every network points upstream, and trouble that stays on one machine does not.

Why did a page with a reference number load instead of the site I wanted?

That page comes from the security layer in front of the site, and it often sits on Akamai's edge. Often the site's own team set the rule against your IP or VPN. Reload once, turn off the VPN, and clear that site's cookies; if it still refuses, contact the site, because the operator is the only one who can lift a rule aimed at you.

Akamai NetSession Client is running on my PC and I never installed it.

Publishers bundle that client into their installers so big downloads pull from closer servers. It arrives with a game installer or a patch, and if you cannot tie it to anything you use, remove it through your settings to see whether the download you cared about still finishes. An unused copy just sits there, eating a little bandwidth and disk space.

I cannot sign in to the Akamai Control Center. Is the platform down?

Sign-in failures there usually come from the account itself. Check the official status page anyway; a real platform incident would cut off your whole team at once, and teammates signing in fine means your password or role is the problem. Ask your admin for a reset.

Is Akamai Cloud the same as Linode?

Linode became the compute side of Akamai Cloud after the acquisition, and the same instances and API keys carried over through the rebrand. A failure in one region looks nothing like one that hits your own config, so check the official status page before you rebuild a box; from the console, a dead server and a dead region look identical.
