Clear cookies for your WP Engine site
In Chrome, open the three-dot menu, go to Delete browsing data, choose Advanced, and clear cookies and other site data for your WP Engine site's domain. Test in private mode.

Fix: Clear your web browser cache or flush your local DNS cache to resolve connection issues with the WP Engine User Portal or your hosted site. You should also ensure that Windows Defender or your antivirus is not blocking SFTP connections to WP Engine.

WP Engine is a managed WordPress host used by agencies, publishers and online shops, so an outage interrupts page loads, admin access, checkout and publishing. Editors feel it first when the dashboard stalls.

Front-end pages slow or fail first, while cached pages can keep serving and hide the trouble from visitors who never log in. The dashboard may hang at login. Scheduled posts miss their slot, plugin updates stop partway, theme edits fail to save, and checkout or membership flows break when database connections drop; you can lose orders while public pages still load. Is WP Engine down right now?

Why does my WP Engine site show 'Error establishing a database connection'?

That message comes from WordPress when it cannot reach the database. Check the site's PHP error log in the User Portal, then confirm the database credentials in wp-config.php. If the front end and wp-admin both fail, send support the exact timestamp; a bad plugin update can also leave the database service unresponsive.

Why can't I connect to my WP Engine site through SSH?

SSH Gateway access needs your public key added in the User Portal and the right environment name in the connection string. A timeout usually means your network blocks port 22 or your key is missing; try the gateway host shown in the portal before you change firewall rules.

Why is my WP Engine staging site stuck on a 502 Bad Gateway error?

A 502 on staging often means PHP workers are tied up or a plugin is crashing, and the fix is to disable plugins one at a time while you watch the error log. If production still loads, compare the two environments' PHP versions and object cache settings; staging-only failures usually trace back to a config difference.

Why did my WP Engine invoice payment fail?

A declined card is the usual cause, so update the payment method in the User Portal and ask your bank about the charge. If the card is fine, contact support with the invoice number; they can check whether the payment gateway rejected it.
