How to fix Viber not working

Viber is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach viber.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Switch networks and reconnect

    Open a chat and send a message. A clock icon next to it means the app cannot reach the servers. Toggle airplane mode on for a few seconds and off again, or move from Wi-Fi to mobile data; if every other app loads and Viber still will not connect, the app is the problem.

  2. Force close and reopen the app

    Swipe the app away from the recent apps list and launch it again. A stuck background process can leave calls ringing with no audio, or messages sitting unsent while the phone has a solid connection. Give it a few seconds before you test a call.

  3. Clear the app cache on Android

    Go to Settings > Apps > Viber > Storage and tap Clear cache. That clears temporary files and leaves your chats alone. Do not tap Clear data, which wipes the local copy of your message history. On iPhone there is no cache button, so delete the app, install it again from the App Store, and sign in with your phone number.

  4. Check microphone and notification permissions

    Calls that connect with silence usually mean the microphone permission is off. On Android check Settings > Apps > Viber > Permissions, and on iPhone check Settings > Viber and turn on Microphone. Missing notifications work the same way: check the toggle inside the app under Settings > Notifications and the one in system settings.   • Regular call or SMS A normal phone call or text runs over your mobile carrier instead of the internet, so it still reaches people when your chats won't send or calls won't connect.

Viber is a messaging and calling app for phones and desktops, used by families and people calling abroad, so an outage cuts off chats, group calls, photo and file sharing and desktop login all at once. Is Viber down right now?

Why do Viber messages fail to send while calls still connect?
A failed send often comes from a data problem on one path; a full outage would hit calls too. If calls connect over Wi-Fi but messages stall, turn off any VPN and restart the app before trying again. The help centre covers account checks if the failure follows you to another device.

Why does Viber say my number is already in use when I reinstall it?
The number stays tied to the old account until you sign in with the same number and complete the code check. If you changed phones and no longer get the SMS or call, use the help centre to recover the account rather than making a new one with a different number. Reinstalling does not erase the link by itself.

Can I move my Viber chat history to a new phone?
Chat history moves only if you made a backup before switching and restore it during setup with the same number. A local backup on the old phone is not enough once that phone is wiped. Start the restore on the new phone before you send or receive new messages, because a fresh setup can overwrite the backup.

Why do Viber notifications stop arriving on Android?
