Metrofibre outages and problems
In the past 24 hours, 50 user reports came in for Metrofibre. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day.
The busiest 15-minute window had 4 reports, about 16 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

How to fix Metrofibre not working
Metrofibre is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach metrofibre.co.za over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Forget and rejoin your Metrofibre Wi-Fi
On an iPhone, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the network name, then choose Forget This Network. Join it again with the same password. A wrong password gives the same result as a dead connection.
Restart the Metrofibre router
Unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. If you have a separate fibre ONT, power it off too, then turn the ONT on before the router.
Test a wired Ethernet connection
Plug a laptop into a LAN port on the router with an Ethernet cable. If that works, the fibre line is up and your Wi-Fi is the problem. A failed link sends you to the ONT.
Check the ONT lights and WAN status
Look at the ONT. The power light should be solid, and the PON or LOS light should stay off. If LOS is red or blinking, the fibre signal is down; open the router admin page on a wired device and check the WAN status for an IP address.
While Metrofibre is down: what to use instead
- Phone hotspot Use your phone as a hotspot for email or banking when the fibre line is out.
- Public Wi-Fi A café or library with free Wi-Fi works for sending a file or checking a work account if the line stays down.
- Cellular router A SIM-based router keeps a small office online for basic browsing when the fibre connection drops and a repair will take time.
- Support phone line Call the support line when the lights on the ONT point to a line fault and you want a ticket logged without the website.
What happens when Metrofibre goes down
Metrofibre is a fibre internet provider for homes and small businesses, and people rely on it for work calls, streaming, gaming and online payments. An outage interrupts that connection, so a dropped line can stop a meeting or block a payment.
The line drops first. A router may show no connection while wired devices lose access and Wi-Fi devices keep a signal but cannot reach the internet, because the fibre link itself is down. Video calls freeze, streaming stalls, gaming lags and online payments fail when the connection cannot hold a session. Problems can be regional or partial: one area goes down while other customers stay online, and a single service can fail while the rest works.

How we track Metrofibre
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Metrofibre, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Metrofibre, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Metrofibre doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
