Troubleshooting

How to fix FortiCloud not working

FortiCloud is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach forticloud.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check the report level for FortiCloud

Look at the status at the top of the page. It counts user problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; it does not probe the service. If reports are above the usual level, wait and try again later because the fault may be on the service side.

  2. Sign out and back in

Use the profile menu at the top right of the portal to sign out, then sign in again with the same account. Old session data can hold a stale token; a fresh sign-in often clears it.

  3. Try a private window

Open a private or incognito window and sign in to the portal there. If the page works, clear cookies and site data for the portal in your normal browser; then retry.

  4. Check the FortiGate registration

On the FortiGate, open System > FortiCloud and confirm the unit is registered with the correct account. If it is not, enter the account again and apply the change; retry the portal afterward.

While FortiCloud is down: what to use instead

  • FortiGate local web UI Open the device's own admin page over your management network when you need to change a policy or check interface status and a local admin account still works.
  • SSH or console CLI A direct SSH login or console cable gets you into local configuration for quick routing or VPN checks while the cloud portal is unavailable.
  • FortiAnalyzer An on-premises or VM FortiAnalyzer collects logs and builds reports while cloud logging is unavailable, so you keep the audit trail on equipment you control.
  • FortiManager FortiManager handles central policy and device updates from a local appliance or VM, which is the fallback for pushing changes across many firewalls when the cloud console will not load.
About

What happens when FortiCloud goes down

FortiCloud is Fortinet's cloud portal for registering FortiGate firewalls and FortiAP access points tied to a FortiCloud account, and network admins use it to check device status and reach linked cloud services. An outage interrupts device onboarding and daily management.

Login and device registration usually fail first, so you cannot add a FortiGate or FortiAP to the account, and FortiGate Cloud can show devices as disconnected while config sync and backup jobs stall. FortiAP management may go read-only or drop out; support case access can stop loading even when local firewall traffic keeps passing. Trouble is often partial. One region or one product portal can fail while other services stay up, and the status at the top of each page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; the site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor the service itself, and never checks from multiple locations.

Questions

FortiCloud FAQ

Is FortiCloud down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. To tell if the trouble is only on your side, try another network and a second device, then sign out and back in on the device that fails; if the second device works, the fault is local to the first one.

Why does FortiGate Cloud show my firewall as offline when it has internet access?

FortiGate Cloud can mark a firewall offline when the device cannot reach the cloud service over HTTPS, even if ordinary web browsing still works. Check the firewall's DNS settings and any outbound policy that blocks management traffic, then restart the FortiGate Cloud connection on the device. If the firewall sits behind a proxy, confirm the proxy allows the service.

Why can't I log in to FortiCloud after resetting my Fortinet account password?

A password reset can leave an old session or saved credential on your browser or phone, so the app keeps sending the stale login. Sign out of every session you can reach and clear the saved password for the site. If the login still fails, check that the account email is correct and approve the two-factor prompt.

Why does FortiCloud say my FortiGate serial number is already registered?

That message usually means another FortiCloud account has the serial number tied to it, often from a past registration or a reseller setup. Ask the previous owner or your Fortinet support contact to release it, then add the device again with the serial number and admin credentials. Do not create a second account for the same serial, because the conflict will stay.

Why does the FortiCloud portal time out when I open FortiGate Cloud from a browser?

A portal timeout often comes from a stale browser session or a corporate proxy that drops long-lived connections. Sign in again in a clean browser profile and allow cookies for the portal. If other cloud pages load but FortiGate Cloud does not, test from a different network and open a support case with the time and browser you used.

How we track FortiCloud

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for FortiCloud, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for FortiCloud, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. FortiCloud doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
