Troubleshooting

How to fix USAA not working

USAA is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach usaa.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Try USAA on cellular data

Turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center or Quick Settings, then open the app. If it loads on cellular data, your network is the problem; if it does not, move to the next step.

  2. Force quit and reopen USAA

On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom edge and pause, then swipe the app card up; on Android, open Settings > Apps > USAA > Force stop. Then launch it again.

  3. Update the USAA app

Tap your profile icon in the App Store and pull down to refresh available updates; install any USAA update. On Android, open Google Play > Manage apps & device > Updates available.

  4. Clear USAA cache or reinstall

On Android, go to Settings > Apps > USAA > Storage & cache > Clear cache. If the app still stalls, uninstall it and install it again from the App Store or Google Play.

While USAA is down: what to use instead

  • USAA website Use the website when the app stalls; it can handle balance checks and transfers if the site loads.
  • Phone support Call the main support line if the app and site both fail and you need to move money or check a balance.
  • Debit or credit card Pay at a store or use an ATM with your card when mobile banking is unavailable.
  • Saved statements and policy documents Open a recent statement or policy document from your files if you need an account number or coverage detail while online access is down.

About

What happens when USAA goes down

USAA is a financial services company for military families, with banking, insurance, investments, and loan tools in one account. Military families rely on it for daily banking and insurance, so an outage interrupts app or website login and blocks balances, transfers, bill pay, and claims.

Login and app loading usually fail first, with a spinning screen or a generic error that sends you back to sign-in. If you get in, balances and recent transactions may stall; transfers, bill pay, mobile check deposit, and card controls can stop before confirmation. Insurance claim uploads can also fail and leave a claim stuck halfway. Trouble is often partial: the app may fail while the website loads; one feature can break while others work, and regional spikes can look like a full outage from your side.

Questions

USAA FAQ

Is USAA down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. It does not ping or monitor USAA itself. To tell if the problem is only on your side, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular, try another device, load another site, and see whether the app opens but a single feature fails; if other sites work and the app fails on both networks, look at your phone, login session, local network, or account profile first.

Why did my mobile check deposit fail in the USAA app?

A deposit can fail if the photo is blurry or the amount does not match the check. Try again with good light and the check flat on a dark surface. That fixes most rejections. If the app still rejects it, use another deposit method or contact support.

Why does the USAA app keep signing me out?

The app may sign you out after a period of inactivity or after a password change on another device. Check that your phone has a stable connection and that face or fingerprint login is set up again. Restart your phone first. If it keeps happening, reinstall the app from the official app store.

Why does the USAA app say my transfer cannot be completed?

A transfer can stall when the from or to account is new or frozen. Check that both accounts are open and that the amount is available. Try using cellular data. If the same message appears, call USAA support and ask about a transfer hold.

Why did my USAA debit card get locked after I used it online?

A card can lock after a fraud alert or after too many failed PIN tries. If the card control switch in the app is off, turn it on and try a small purchase. That often clears it. If the app still shows a lock, call the number on the back of your card.

How we track USAA

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for USAA, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for USAA, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. USAA doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
