Troubleshooting

How to fix Securly not working

Securly is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach securly.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Reload the block page

Close and reopen the tab, then load the same address. If the block screen returns, note the exact message and site so you have them for support.

  2. Turn on the Securly extension

Open Chrome's menu, choose Extensions, then Manage Extensions. Find the Securly item, switch it on if it is off, and reload the page.

  3. Clear Chrome site data

In Chrome, open Settings, choose Privacy and security, then Delete browsing data. Pick Cookies and other site data plus Cached images and files, set the time range to All time, and delete the data before you sign in again.

  4. Send a Securly help request

Use the help centre at https://support.securly.com/hc/en/requests/new. Include the device type and the exact block message, then say which sites fail and which ones still load.

While Securly is down: what to use instead

  • School IT help desk Call or email your school tech team when a blocked page or sign-in loop stops classwork; they can adjust the filter or say if the outage is local.
  • Built-in device controls Use Screen Time on Apple devices or Family Link on Android to set basic limits if the Securly app at home will not load.
  • Offline class materials Open downloaded files or ask for a printed handout when a research site keeps showing the block page and the lesson can continue without browsing.
  • Securly support request Use the help centre form for a login or block-list problem that persists after you retry, since it reaches support without the app.
About

What happens when Securly goes down

Securly is a cloud web filter and school safety tool that blocks sites and flags risky activity on school Chromebooks and other managed devices. Teachers and IT staff rely on it, and an outage interrupts filtered browsing and safety alerts.

Filtered browsing fails first. A Chromebook may hang on a page or show a connection error after login, while the admin console refuses logins or stalls on policy changes. Teacher dashboards and safety alerts may stop updating. Problems tend to be partial: one school or device group can lose filtering while another school keeps working, so test a second network before you assume the whole service is down.

Questions

Securly FAQ

Is Securly down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether reports for Securly are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or probe the service. Check your side first. Try another network and another browser, then load a site you know works; if the block or login loop follows only your school account or school device, the trouble is likely on your side or in your school's setup.

Why does the Securly block page show up at home?

A school device can keep filtering after it leaves campus because the Securly agent or browser extension still applies your school's rules. Open a personal phone on the same Wi-Fi and a site you know is allowed; if that phone loads the page and the school device does not, the filter is active on that device while the network is fine. Ask school IT to check the policy for that site.

Why does the Securly extension keep signing me out on my Chromebook?

An expired school login or a disabled extension can cause the sign-out loop. Sign out of Chrome and back in, then check that the extension is enabled; if it still fails, ask school IT to confirm the device is enrolled and the filtering profile is assigned.

Why does Securly Home show no activity for my child?

The Home app usually needs the school to enable parent access and the child's device to check in before activity appears. If the app shows an empty screen, confirm the school has linked your parent account, and open the app on a phone or tablet with a working connection.

How do I ask my school to unblock a site in Securly?

Send the exact URL and why you need it for class to your teacher or school IT, since they control the filter rules for your account. If they need to escalate, they can use the Securly help centre at https://support.securly.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

How we track Securly

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Securly, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Securly, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Securly doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
