Why can't I join a friend's multiplayer room?

Rooms fill quickly and a code that has already been used up will refuse new entries, so ask the host to open a fresh one. Both phones also need the same game version, and an out-of-date app often cannot see a room at all. Update the app, then try the code again within a minute or two of it being shared.
