Amtrak outages and problems
In the past 24 hours, 29 user reports came in for Amtrak. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day.
The busiest 15-minute window had 5 reports, about 3 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

How to fix Amtrak not working
Amtrak is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach amtrak.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Reload and restart
Reload the page (Ctrl+F5, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac), or fully close the app and open it again.
Try another connection
Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If it works on one and not the other, the problem is your network, not Amtrak.
Update the app
Install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play. Old versions can stop connecting after a server-side change.
While Amtrak is down: what to use instead
- Amtrak website Use the browser version if the app freezes at sign-in or payment; the booking tools and account pages are the same place.
- Amtrak phone line Call the reservations line when a booking or change fails on the app and you need a person to finish it.
- Station ticket counter Go to a staffed station counter if a card keeps getting rejected online and you want a ticket printed before you board.
- Greyhound Take a bus when a canceled train leaves you without a seat and you can accept a longer trip; check the carrier's own schedule before you go.

How we track Amtrak
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Amtrak, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Amtrak, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. This is separate from Amtrak's official status page: user reports tend to show a problem early, while the official page confirms the cause. If the two disagree, check both.
