Troubleshooting

How to fix Yahoo not working

Yahoo is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach yahoo.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Read the report level first

The report level at the top of the page counts problem reports from people in 15-minute windows over a rolling 24-hour period. The site does not probe the service, so a normal level can sit next to a local sign-in or loading problem. Treat it as a hint.

  2. Sign out of Yahoo

Open Yahoo Mail in a browser, click your name or avatar at the top right, and choose Sign out; then sign in again from the sign-in page. That clears a stale session. A stuck inbox can recover after the new sign-in.

  3. Clear Yahoo site data in Safari

In Safari, choose Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, search yahoo.com, and remove the entries. Sign back in afterward because the sign-in cookie is gone.

  4. Contact Yahoo Help

If sign-in or loading errors continue after you clear the session and site data, open the Yahoo Help Centre at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/helpcentral/helpcentral_contactus.html and use the contact options there. Have the exact error text and the browser you used ready because support will ask for them.

While Yahoo is down: what to use instead

  • Gmail Use Gmail in a browser when the inbox will not open and you still need to send mail.
  • Proton Mail Try Proton Mail for a separate inbox if sign-in keeps failing; it gives you a place to read and send mail while the app is unusable.
  • Bing Bing works for a quick search when the main page stalls.
  • Yahoo Help Centre The help centre has contact paths for account problems, so use it if a sign-in loop blocks you.

About

What happens when Yahoo goes down

Yahoo is a web portal with Mail, News, Finance and Search, and many people rely on its inbox and market pages for work and personal errands. An outage interrupts mail delivery, sign-in, headline reading and stock checks; a page that hangs or opens without your inbox can stall the rest of your morning.

Mail often breaks first. Sign-in can loop back to the login screen and the inbox can hang on a loading screen while the homepage still opens. Finance quotes can stop updating, Sports scores can lag, Search can return an error page, and News headlines can load without images. Trouble is often partial: one app or region can fail while another works, and the status at the top counts problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours to show whether trouble is above its usual level.

Questions

Yahoo FAQ

Is Yahoo down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Yahoo are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or probe the service, so that flag reflects reports, not a live test. If other sites load and only Yahoo fails, the problem is likely on your side; try another network, clear the browser cache, or use the help centre.

Why does Yahoo Mail keep signing me out on my browser?

A browser that blocks cookies, a privacy extension, or a stale session can end your sign-in early. Check that cookies are allowed for the site, turn off the extension for that site, and sign in again. If the problem follows you to the Yahoo Mail app, use the help centre for account recovery.

Why does Yahoo Mail show "No connection" when my phone has internet?

The app can lose its connection through a VPN, a private DNS setting, or background data limits even when other apps work. Check those settings, clear the app cache, then force quit and reopen it. If the message stays, reinstall the app and sign in with your recovery method.

I can't get my Yahoo verification code. What should I check?

Codes go to the recovery phone or email on your account; a carrier spam filter or an old backup address can block them. Check the spam folder, confirm your recovery details in account security, and use the help centre if none arrive.

Why do Yahoo Finance charts go blank or show old prices?

Ad blockers and script blockers can stop the chart from drawing, and a stale browser cache can leave an old quote on screen. Open the page in a private window, disable extensions for the site, and reload. If the chart still fails on mobile data, try Wi-Fi or the Yahoo Finance app.

How we track Yahoo

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Yahoo, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Yahoo, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Yahoo doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
