What happens when Grindr goes down

Grindr is a location-based social and dating app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people, and you use it to browse nearby profiles, chat, send taps, and arrange meetups. When it goes down, those quick chats and plans stop.

The nearby grid may go blank or spin without loading profiles, and your location can stop updating even when other apps find you fine. Chats often fail first: messages fail to send, and taps do not register. Photos and albums may not open, and problems are usually regional or partial, so a friend nearby may stay online while you cannot refresh profiles or start a conversation. This site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor Grindr itself, and it never checks from multiple locations; the status at the top of each page compares user problem reports against their usual level in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours.

Why does the Grindr grid stay empty or keep showing the same profiles?

Location permissions and weak GPS locks can cause an empty grid; a full outage would hit other parts of the app too. Check your location settings. Toggle Airplane Mode, then reopen the app; if the grid fills in, your connection was the problem. If the same empty grid follows you across Wi-Fi and cellular, the issue may be on Grindr's end.

Why can't I send messages or load my chats?

Chat trouble can come from a dropped connection or from the app being stuck on an old session. Force close the app and reopen it, then refresh the chat list. If messages stay stuck on sending or fail to go through, sign out and sign back in, which often clears a stale session. When every chat fails on both Wi-Fi and cellular, check the help centre before you delete the app.

Why does Grindr say my phone number or account cannot be verified when I try to log in?

Login checks can fail if the SMS code never arrives or if you changed phones. Request a new code and try signing in with the same method you used to create the account. If the app still rejects the code, contact Grindr support through the help centre rather than making new accounts, because new accounts can make the problem worse.

Why did my Grindr subscription or purchase not show up after I paid?

App store purchases can lag, so close the app and reopen it before you panic. Check that you are signed into the same Apple ID or Google account that made the purchase, because a second account will not see the subscription. If the charge is on your receipt but the paid features stay locked, restore purchases from the app's settings and then contact the help centre with the receipt. Do not start a second subscription while the first one is pending; duplicate charges can follow.
