How to fix Google NotebookLM not working

Google NotebookLM is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach notebooklm.google.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

Reload the notebook and check sign in
Press Reload in your browser, then click your profile avatar in the top right to confirm you use the account that holds the notebook. Then try the action again.
Delete and add the stuck source again
If a PDF, Google Doc, Slides or YouTube link spins without end, delete it from the left Sources list then click + Add source to upload it fresh because a half done upload blocks chat. Chat works after that.
Clear site data to fix Audio stalls
In Chrome open Settings > Privacy and security > Delete browsing data and tick Cookies and Cached images and files, then restart the tab because stale storage blocks new Audio Overview generations. Then sign back in.
Open an Incognito window to retest chat
Switch to a New Incognito window with Ctrl + Shift + N or Cmd + Shift + N, then open the notebook and test chat with no extensions since blockers and school filters stop uploads. Allow Drive access if asked.

Why won't my PDF or Google Doc upload to NotebookLM?

Uploads usually fail when the file is too large or the format is unsupported, and Drive permissions can block a Google Doc you cannot open. Try a smaller PDF and confirm that you have view access to the original. If the upload bar stalls, refresh the page and add the source again.

Why is the Audio Overview stuck or failing to generate?

Audio Overviews can sit in a queue, and long or messy sources make failures more likely. Check each source for a loading error and remove password-protected PDFs. Then start a new overview, or wait and try again later because demand can slow generation.

Why does NotebookLM say I need to sign in or switch accounts?

The app ties your notebooks to the Google account you used to create or join them, so a second signed-in account can send you to an empty or locked view. Sign out, then sign back in with the correct account and reload the notebook.

Does NotebookLM work on phones and can I use it offline?

It runs in a browser and has mobile apps for Android and iOS. You need an internet connection to chat with sources and generate Audio Overviews. Offline use is limited, so if the app will not load on mobile data, try Wi-Fi or a desktop browser.
