YouTube video player shows a green screen

Sound plays but the picture is green

The video plays with sound, but the player shows a green box instead of the picture. YouTube points to the browser's hardware acceleration and the computer's graphics driver.

Is YouTube down right now? Partial outage: 246 problem reports in the last hour. Many people are having trouble, so this problem may come from YouTube's side: waiting can be enough.
Fix it

How to fix it

  1. Try the same video in a different browser.

  2. In Chrome, open More, then Settings, then System, and turn off Use hardware acceleration when available.

  3. Update your graphics driver from your computer maker's website, or run Software Update on a Mac.

  4. If the video still will not play, follow YouTube's general playback steps.
