GCash errors and common problems
Common problems people run into with GCash and its error codes, with how to fix each one, taken from GCash's own help pages and put in plain words. If many people have trouble at once, the cause may be on GCash's side: check whether GCash is down right now.
Common problems
-
Can't log in: Login fails, app crashes or won't connect
- Means
- GCash lists several login problems, from a Failed Login Attempt message to crashes and connection errors. Most of them are fixed on the phone itself.
- First step
- On Android, go to Settings > Apps > GCash > Storage and tap Clear Cache. Do not tap Clear Data. All steps
-
Verification failed: Selfie or ID rejected
- Means
- GCash sends an SMS with the reason a verification was rejected. The usual reasons are a blurry or dark selfie, an expired or unclear ID, or ID details that don't match what you entered.
- First step
- Read the SMS from GCash to see why the verification was rejected. All steps
-
OTP not received: The 6-digit code never arrives
- Means
- GCash sends login and most transaction codes by SMS, and Express Send codes as in-app notifications. A weak signal, a full SMS inbox or roaming turned off can stop them.
- First step
- For Express Send, turn on GCash push notifications, because that code comes inside the app. All steps
-
Device not secure: Rooted phone, developer settings or risky apps
- Means
- GCash checks the phone before it opens. A device security error with a Ref number means it found something like a rooted or jailbroken phone, developer options, installs from unknown sources, or apps that clone or tamper with other apps. GCash says this does not block the account itself.
- First step
- Update your phone's software and the GCash app, then try again. All steps
Error codes
-
Your account is on hold: GCash has restricted access to the account
- Means
- GCash shows this when it has put a hold on an account. Fully verified users usually get an email from GCash that explains the restriction under its Terms and Conditions.
- First step
- Check your inbox and spam folder for an email from GCash about your account. All steps
-
Something went wrong: General app error, often an outdated app
- Means
- A catch-all error in the GCash app. GCash ties it to an outdated app, a weak or unstable connection, or a temporary glitch.
- First step
- Update the GCash app to the latest version. All steps
-
Detected an untrusted connection: Network flagged as unsafe, REF 2631 or 6948
- Means
- GCash shows this, sometimes with a code like REF: 2631 00AF or REF: 6948, when it does not trust the network you are connected to.
- First step
- Update the GCash app to the latest version. All steps
-
You cannot login using this phone: Too many device changes on the account
- Means
- GCash shows this after its security checks spot several unusual attempts to change the phone registered to the account.
- First step
- Log in on the phone that was registered to your account before. All steps
