Discord: "Connecting"

Stuck on the main Connecting screen

The Discord app never gets past its startup Connecting screen. Discord lists clock, malware, firewall and proxy settings as things to check.

Is Discord down right now? Operational: 18 problem reports in the last hour. If it were down for everyone, this error could come from there; right now it looks normal.
Fix it

How to fix "Connecting"

  1. Make sure your date and time are set automatically.

  2. Scan your computer with Malwarebytes, clear any threats, restart and relaunch Discord.

  3. Check that your firewall lets Discord connect.

  4. Turn off any proxy (Windows: Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings; Mac: Network > Advanced > Proxies).

  5. If it still hangs, open the console with Ctrl+Shift+I (Option+Cmd+I on Mac) and look for errors.
