Telstra internet keeps dropping out

Outage, loose cable or modem needs a restart

Telstra asks you to rule out an outage in your area first, then check the modem, its cables and the nbn connection box. It can't run remote checks on eero or bring-your-own modems.

Is Telstra down right now? Operational: 5 problem reports in the last hour. If it were down for everyone, this problem could come from there; right now it looks normal.
Fix it

How to fix it

  1. Check Telstra's outage page for your address.

  2. Make sure the modem's power light is on and the Ethernet cable sits firmly in the red WAN port.

  3. Check the status lights on your nbn connection box.

  4. Restart the modem and the nbn connection box.

  5. Run Get help with an issue under Help in the My Telstra app.

  6. Chat with Telstra if it keeps happening so they can check your account.

From Telstra's help pages: telstra.com.au, in our words. Checked on 5 November 2026. If the steps do not help, Telstra's own support is the next stop.
