Troubleshooting

How to fix Shentel not working

Shentel is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach shentel.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Restart the Shentel router

Unplug the router's power adapter for 30 seconds, then reconnect it; this clears a stuck router state without touching your device settings. Wait two minutes, then test one device.

  2. Test one device on Shentel Wi-Fi

On a phone, open Settings > Wi-Fi and join the network name you normally use. If pages fail, toggle Wi-Fi off and on; then move closer to the router and retry.

  3. Check the Shentel cable connection

Hand-tighten the coax fitting at the wall and at the router, then press the Ethernet plug in until it clicks; a loose link can drop while the router still has power. If a splitter sits between the wall and the router, remove it and connect the wall cable to the router.

  4. Renew the Shentel IP lease

On Windows, open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. On macOS, open System Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > Details > TCP/IP and click Renew DHCP Lease; this replaces a stale address when the router hands one out but pages still fail.

While Shentel is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot when another device needs a connection for email or a browser.
  • Cellular call Use a mobile phone to call or text when the home phone stops working.
  • Public Wi-Fi Go to a library or cafe with Wi-Fi if you need to send a file or load a page that will not open at home.
  • TV antenna Switch to an antenna for local channels when the TV service drops and you want news or weather.
About

What happens when Shentel goes down

Shentel is a regional internet and TV provider for households and small businesses in the mid-Atlantic. An outage cuts off remote work, schoolwork, streaming, and phone calls.

An outage usually shows up as a Wi-Fi connection that stays on but carries no traffic; pages time out and video calls freeze. Streaming stalls and live TV can drop if the same line feeds both services. Phone service can fail too. Trouble often stays within a neighborhood or a town, so a working connection a few streets over says little about your line.

Questions

Shentel FAQ

Is Shentel down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Shentel are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or monitor the service itself. To tell whether the problem is only on your side, try a second device on the same network and switch one device to mobile data; if both fail, power-cycle your modem and router.

Why does my Shentel internet light stay red after a reboot?

A red internet light usually means the modem has not locked onto the line. Check the coax or fiber cable at the back and make sure it is snug; if it stays red after a power-cycle and a few minutes, call Shentel support from a phone on a different network.

What should I check when the Shentel account page keeps sending me back to login?

That loop often comes from a stale browser cookie or a password manager filling an old password, so clear the site data for the account page and sign in again by typing the password yourself. If the loop continues, try a private window and a different browser before you reset the password.

What can I do when my Shentel TV box is stuck on the loading screen?

Unplug the TV box for a full minute, then plug it back in and wait for the loading screen to clear. A bad HDMI port can look like a service outage. Check the cable between the box and the TV and try a different port if the screen still hangs.

Why did my Shentel autopay fail?

Autopay failures often trace to an expired card or a bank fraud block. Check the payment method on file and any alert from your bank. Retry after you update the card; if the charge still declines, ask your bank whether it is blocking the merchant.

How we track Shentel

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Shentel, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Shentel, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Shentel doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
