Common problemBrightspeedHome internet and WiFi

Brightspeed internet is slow

Router placement, busy hours or too many devices

Brightspeed says slow speeds often come from where the router sits, many devices sharing the connection, WiFi interference or old modem firmware. All networks also get busier from about 7 to 11 p.m.

Is Brightspeed down right now? Partial outage: 49 problem reports in the last hour. Many people are having trouble, so this problem may come from Brightspeed's side: waiting can be enough.
Fix it

How to fix it

  1. Run a speed test before and after each change.

  2. Move the router to a central, open spot off the floor, away from large metal appliances and thick walls.

  3. Restart the router and check for a firmware update.

  4. Turn off or disconnect devices you are not using.

  5. Connect to the 5 GHz WiFi band if your modem has one.

  6. Reset the modem to factory settings only as a last step.
