Common problemGitHubGit command line
GitHub rejects your password on git push
Git over HTTPS needs a token now
Git asks for a password and then fails with an authentication error. GitHub removed password sign-in for Git, so HTTPS pushes and pulls need a personal access token or a credential helper.
Fix it
How to fix it
Create a personal access token in your GitHub settings.
Paste the token when Git asks for your password.
Or sign in with gh auth login in GitHub CLI, or use a credential helper such as Git Credential Manager.
Or switch the remote to an SSH URL and add an SSH key to your account.
